Even in tough economic times, people give

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul — whose members are quite familiar with the effects of the world financial crisis on the poor — has some good news to report. Its second annual Friends of the Poor Walk raised more than $1.2 million, a more than 50 percent increase over the inaugural year.
