Deacons take ministry to the streets

Deacons in the Los Angeles Archdiocese are not just quietly doing parish work but getting involved in outreach ministry, according to this recent story in The Tidings, archdiocesan newspaper of Los Angeles.

Deacon Peter Wilson, who runs the Deacon Mission Center Ministry near St. Michael’s Church in Los Angeles, told a group of deacons last month that they needed to minister to people outside the church.

“Pews are empty because we haven’t done our jobs,” he said.

“We minister to the people in the church, to the ones who are already saved, but we leave out the people outside the church,” he said. “We need to meet people’s needs in their cities, at their homes or at their workplace. That is why we call it outreach.”
