Vatican statement on pope’s meeting with Nancy Pelosi

Here is the text of the statement released today by the Vatican regarding Pope Benedict XVI’s meeting with U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

Following the General Audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Mrs Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage.

His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.”

  1. The Pope has to meet these leaders and they need to meet him. Now we pray his wisdom and prayerful influence will slowly but surely have a positive effect in the depths of their hearts for the responsibility they have for protection of human life.

  2. Excommunication seems to be looked at like the laws of the US. Only certain people meet the threshold. Pelosi has helped kill millions of babies directly using her job as a vehicle for death. How many lives should be sacraficed for this evil being? Similar to US politicians, Benedict has ‘looked the other way” in terms of stopping an ‘ardent Catholic’ from murdering millions more with the tag of Catholic she wrongly uses. She is not a Catholic and her followers that voted to continue the slaughter aren’t either. Example: If you are divorced you do not call yourself married. She doesn’t follow Catholic law (it seems at all) but she is still Catholic? Murder, homosexuality, theft by over taxation, lies, false witness are her only make up. A priest giving her Holy Communion is in jeopardy it would seem. Where are the defenders of the faith, why won’t the church speak? Is it $$$$$$$?

Editor’s Note: This entry was edited to remove an offensive remark.

  3. The Pope has given queen Pelosi another chance to prove she is a Catholic. I doubt that she will take it. If not, she should be excommunicated and if the Bishop in San Francisco won’t do it, then the Pope should…and that goes for Mr. Biden as well and any other so-called Catholic politician. If the Church loses monetary support, so be it. Taking money stained with sin is a sin in itself.

  4. Dear CNS,

I was looking for a contact email to send this to, but could not find one. Here is what I wanted to say:

I think you should consider taking the comments option off your blog entries. Too often the messages are disparaging or hateful, and not in the Christian spirit of charity. For example: Though I strongly disagree with Rep. Pelosi’s position on abortion, I believe it is improper to call her a “Nazi”. Another option might be to allow users to flag other comments.

    Thank you,
    Adam

  5. Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already released an e-mail that suggests the Vatican may be lying about her meeting with Pope Benedict. Her message says that she discussed global warming, poverty, religious freedom and other subjects near and dear to Democrat hearts, but she doesn’t include abortion as one of the issues discussed with the Pope at all.

  6. The Pope needs to excommunicate Nancy Pelosi!

  7. I was praying overnight that the Pope would excommunicate Mrs. Pelosi after challenging her over her “culture of death” worship of Democrat politics and then asking her to renounce her counterfeit faith to return to obedience to Catholic truths. Perhaps that is now a more reasonable course for the Bishop of San Francisco to follow, perhaps immediately after her next anti-life vote in office.

  8. Anybody that says anything these liberals don’t agree with are liars…don’t you know that by now? Even the Pope…the nerve of him…

  9. The Pope, as well as American bishops, need to walk the walk when it comes to imposing consequences on “Catholic” politicians who support abortion. Denying them Communion is a start; imposing excommunication on them if they do not recant their pro-abortion policies should be the next step. I was dismayed to learn that the Church condones voting for pro-abortion political candidates, as long as support for them is not based solely on their pro-abortion stance. This gave Catholics permission to vote for Obama, Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi and other Democrats who are Catholic in name only. As long as any candidate, regardless of part affiliation, supports abortion rights, he/she will not receive my vote.

  10. Separation of church and state. Need I say more? The church needs to mind its own business, not try to force its views on people like me who believe all organized religion is a tool of the devil (or I would if I believed in the devil.)

  11. I tried convincing democrat cousins of mine that they can’t be good Catholics and vote for Obama because of FOCA. One is in her 70’s, has no need for an abortion at this point but insisted that she supports a woman’s right to choose. I pointed out Obama was for baby killing, as in late term abortion gone wrong, she told me she’d believe me if I could show it to her, but on television, not Republican television. I could not convince her that the GOP has no television stations.

    It’s sad but true.

  12. Is it OK with you crazies that the Pope was a member of the Hitler Youth? If you are saying Pelosi is a Nazi then you have to maybe say that the Pope is a Nazi as well. God apparently forgives many things…..

  13. CarolT: God bless you for trying. Unfortunately, it is too late for your 70-year-old cousin. She has been indoctrinated by Democrats for at least 36 years, since the Roe v Wade decision. I have found that you have to choose your parish carefully. Many priests and more than a few American bishops are Democrats first and everything else second, including Church doctrine.

  14. Please give the Pope a break. He is a man of mercy and forgiveness. He can only instruct/remind Mrs. Pelosi her responsibilities as a Catholic and leader of people. I am sure he will pray for her soul. She, like many Catholics may have a firm belief in Confession and Forgiveness. The priest will say sin no more. As humans with free will, we will resist sin for a day, maybe a week then back to the confessional. Maybe that is what Mrs. Pelosi is doing. She may be like many other Catholics not knowing what a mortal sin is and go to Communion. Take note of the handful of people at Saturday confessions versus the masses receiving communion on Sunday.

  15. ===============================
    =
= PELOSI SHOULD DECLARE THAT SHE’S THE POPE

If Pelosi declared that she’s the Pope it would be just as believable as her declaring that she’s Catholic.

  16. Chris H – I’m an agnostic myself, but you are completely missing the point. Pelosi constantly touts her “ardent and faithful” status as a Catholic when she’s trying to get elected and wants people to think she has SOME sort of system for making moral decisions.

Pelosi is getting heat for her obvious hypocrisy and trying to spin her visit with the Pope. Rightfully so! It’s her own fault – because though she CHOOSES to be a Catholic (and uses it to paint herself as a person of faith,) she directly opposes Catholicism with her actions. And the Pope (who is the head of the Catholic Church in case you didn’t know) has a DUTY to set her straight.

Also, if she is a Catholic, her spiritual formation and what happens to her soul ARE the business of her Church. How can you claim that the Catholic Church has no business teaching Catholicism? Use your brain for crying out loud.

BTW – you also make us non-religious folks look stupid with this lovely little morsel of wisdom: “Separation of church and state. Need I say more?” Somehow… I find it difficult to believe that there is any such doctrine as “separation of church and state” in Vatican City. Ha ha!

  17. (Evil) Michael said: “Is it OK with you crazies that the Pope was a member of the Hitler Youth? If you are saying Pelosi is a Nazi then you have to maybe say that the Pope is a Nazi as well. God apparently forgives many things…”

I don’t know Michael… is it okay with you that children in Nazi Germany were forced into participating in those types of organizations? That (of course) wouldn’t have happened to you though, because you’d rather the Nazis kill you AND your children before you’d allow that to happen right?

You have no idea what it was like for good people living under Nazi rule in Germany. And I don’t think (for a moment) that you would have resisted in any way. You would have definitely been a Nazi supporter at least nominally, but… more likely, you’d have bought into their propaganda like you’ve bought into the abortion industry’s propaganda. …

And because you’ve allowed yourself to be bought, it is no big surprise that you miss the bigger picture and fail to see the similarity between genocide aimed at human beings because of their race/religion and genocide aimed at human beings because they are small. In both cases, it is state-sponsored killing of human beings… because in both cases the “state” declared that these human beings “aren’t really human beings.”

Trust me brother, you’re on the wrong side.

  18. I sure hope I don’t get behind Pelosi on judgment day…when she has to explain when life begins to our Lord…..really hate waiting in lines…

P.S. Pelosi please join another faith…you really are an embarrassment to the rest of us Catholics…
