Speaker Pelosi’s statement after meeting Pope Benedict

VATICAN CITY — Here is a statement by U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House of Representatives, after her meeting with Pope Benedict XVI today. The statement was distributed by her staff. Click here for the earlier Vatican statement.

It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI today.

In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming, as well as the Holy Father’s dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel.

I was proud to show His Holiness a photograph of my family’s papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren.”

One can only note the profound “disconnect” between the Holy See’s statement on this audience and Mrs. Pelosi’s statement. Her silence and omission speaks volumes. What can one conclude from this but that she is placing her worldly position above the obligations of truth and godliness?

One also must note the vast difference between the entirely fitting and necessary moral outrage regarding the vile Holocaust-minimising views of SSPX Bishop Williamson and the casual way that Mrs. Pelosi’s complicity in the abortion “holocaust” is treated.

  2. dancny says:

Did anyone really expect her to come out and say, “Oh wow! i WAS WRONG ALL THIS TIME!” This is a seed that will have to germinate. Let’s hope that it doesn’t take too long.

  3. cinders says:

God’s works are beautiful… like getting Nancy to go to the Vatican to meet with Pope Benedict

    .
If God is able to convert Paul to believing in Jesus and his teachings – I am so hopeful for Mrs. Pelosi.

  4. M. Sawyer says:

How ironic, anti-life and anti-family Speaker Pelosi showing family photos to the Holy Father…

  5. Debbie says:

All we can do is pray, fast, and pray some more for our public officials. I love the prolife prayer offered by Most Reverend Robert. J. Baker (Bishop of Birmingham, Alabama. It can be found on EWTN’s page.

  6. Fish says:

The Lord lays down many “lines in the sands” in all of our lives…”choices” to declare that we are followers of his Son or followers of someone/something else. I pray that Mrs. Pelosi hears the Holy Father’s words with the “ears of her heart!”

Luke 10: Jesus Sends Out The Seventy Two:

“The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” Luke 10:16 (English Standard Version)

  7. Jay12 says:

You can pray and fast and pray as much as you want, but you will still pay the eternal price for voting for Barack Obama, Joseph Biden, Nancy Pelosi, or any other abortion hucksters, almost all of whom are Democrats. Repent now for your support of the Democratic Party. Repent now for burying your head in the sand and failing to oppose Democrat Party abortion policy where it counts: at the voting booth. Repent now, and never vote for another Democrat again. John McCain, Sarah Palin, and the vast majority of the Republican Party are Pro-Life. God help you if you didn’t vote for the Pro-Life candidates.

  8. Dcn. R. Moreau says:

Removing all restrictions, expanding government funding, allowing late-term abortions, expanding abortion to our already taxed military medical system, and similar legislative promotions are a far cry from keeping abortion safe and legal. Her statement that the government should not be involved in a woman’s decision about abortion and then saying we’ll pay for it rings hollow. To approach the author of life in the Eucharist, an author who was born out of wedlock of a teenager, and then to “disagree” with the Pope and Magisterium about such a fundamental teaching on what the sanctity of life is all about is quite a contradiction. I see the embarassment and hurt her and her like-minded, so-called Catholic politicians stances cause among so many of our clergy – they deserve better. How sad this whole situation is, not only for the Church, and those who are trying so hard to remain faithful the the Church’s teaching, but most importantly for the millions of unique lives thrown into the biohazard wastebin. Hardly a cause for serenity.

  9. chris wayne says:

Responding to Jay12: Abortion is evil but so is death penalty, war, poverty, Guantanimo tortures, bringing our country into financial poverty. Stop playing God. stop being judgemental. Repent for voting for the anti life of republicans.

  10. jude says:

The Vatican should have publicly excommunicated Miss Nancy Patricia D’Alesando and her consort-husband Paul Francis Pelosi Sr who on March 26, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland were joined in marriage.

Especially surprising is that “Nancy “was pregnant for a good portion of the 1960s”, having five kids, born in six years and one week.” Perhaps this is the reason she is now pro-abortion, will hardly call her and others of her flock “pro-choice”, as they often are involved in denying choice to many others, including both young mothers and their unborn.

  11. greg says:

Just as I have more interest in the Catholic faith, I now have questions in why such a double standard is allowed for such American liberal political types…

  12. James says:

Pictures of her family . . . and does she think the Pope is more interested in her self-serving pictures than he is concerned with her anti-life posturing as the leader of the United States House of Representatives?? Shame on her, and continued prayers for the unborn . . . it’s the least we can do for these least amongst us.

  13. Cheryl says:

Her statement makes it sound like SHE’S the one granting the audience to the Pope, not Vice Versa!

Is this woman truly this arrogant!?!

  14. Jay12 says:

The poster “chris wayne” follows the familiar pattern of evil used by Democrats to smoke-screen the practice of abortion and promote its practice.

The Democratic Party, also known by Vatican officials as the Party of Death, continues to slander the political opposition while committing unprecedented atrocities upon human life.

They must be repudiated when they use the death penalty issue against Republicans. In fact, most executions are performed in liberal Democrat jurisdictions under liberal Democrat governance.

The blame for all recent international conflicts should be laid squarely at the feet of Democrats, as anyone with a knowledge of foreign affairs knows that the Democrat-supported terrorists have been fomenting violence in places like Africa and the Middle East for generations. Here in the United States as well: take a look at where all the violent crime is being committed and you will find a Democrat government and a leftist culture. You will also find perpetual poverty in these Democrat districts, because that’s how the Democrats maintain their power, by keeping people down with welfare handouts mixed with finger-pointing speeches that destroy the human spirit.

The ultimate hypocrisy of “chris wayne” and his Democrat friends is their complaint about Guantanamo, when their abortionist president Obama just talks about shutting it down but has no solution to the problem that would cause. Meanwhile, the most evil torture policy ever created, the “rendition” policy started by President Clinton, has been embraced and will be expanded by President Obama, so that the Guantanamo prisoners are subject to being released to foreign governments for the expressed purpose of torturing them IN SECRET on behalf of the Obama Administration! You see, the Democrats deal in ignorance. They don’t want you to know what is going on. That’s why you have Democrat Catholics like Pelosi saying that the Church doesn’t even know when life begins.

Finally, Democrat “chris wayne” lectures against being “judgemental”. Of course he does! Any devious guilty person would want to escape judgement.
