Numerous Catholic papers came out this past weekend with coverage of the papal trip but also personal reflections on how the trip touched the lives of local Catholics. Some examples:
- The Catholic Explorer in the Diocese of Joliet, Ill., published first-person accounts on the papal trip from a local college president, the diocesan superintendent of schools, the director of diocesan Catholic Charities, another local college president, a pastor who concelebrated Mass with the pope, and the director of the diocesan Office of Vicar for Religious.
- The Arkansas Catholic in Little Rock rolled up five interviews in one story with local Catholics who attended papal events, and published a separate story on a parish youth group which found that “people were just laying out the red carpet” while the group was in Washington.
- The Georgia Bulletin in Atlanta published a column by a woman who says one event during the trip moved her to tears and an article interviewing the local Catholic schools’ superintendent who was awed by the pope.
- The Tidings in Los Angeles also has a roundup of local people’s reaction on seeing the pope and a separate column by L.A.’s Cardinal Roger Mahony saying he came back from the trip a “different disciple of Jesus” than he was before.
- The Catholic Spirit in St. Paul, Minn.,
has the amazing story of how one local family’s act of faith got them into the Mass the pope celebrated at Nationals Park in Washington. It also published a column by Coadjutor Archbishop John C. Nienstedt giving his three most memorable moments from the trip as well as memorable papal quotes from the week.
